The Allium Flower Earrings (Allium textile) feature a species of prairie onion that is commonly found in the Rocky Mountains. Allium grows in dry, sunlit locations. When cut or bruised, all parts of this plant exude on onion fragrance. While edible in small amounts, they were also used by early explorers for colds, coughs, and asthma. Another use was to repel insects. They have a strong flavor, but the leaves and bulbs can be eaten raw or cooked.
